A Timeless Fall Home

Fall is a hardworking season. It is the time of year when crops are harvested, school resumes after a long break, and there is a different energy in the air. The subtlety that was once summer has passed and a feeling of strength has arrived.

Thank you again to April from House By Hoff and Krista from The Happy Housie for asking me me to join them on their “Seasonal Simplicity Home Tour”. I really enjoy welcoming in the different seasons with them and the other talented bloggers on the tour. If you are joining the tour by way of my friend Charlotte from At Charlotte’s House, welcome and thank you for visiting with me here.

Next up on the seasonal list, you guessed it…FALL! Now, let’s get started!

I always start at the front door, no matter the purpose, when I decorate my home. I believe it sets the tone for the house as a whole.  It then becomes easier to make decisions for the rest of the house because I have a focus and can make decisions with intention behind them. Decorating in this way makes decision making for my home that much easier.

When I want to create a timeless feeling in my home one element that I consider is color.  The key is to choose matte colors with a grey undertone when you want a timeless feel.  These heirloom pumpkins and acorn squash fit the bill perfectly don’t you think?

Bringing in natural elements, like this bay leaf garland that I made, is an organic way to incorporate fall into your home. Fall and nature go hand in hand, so finding different ways to bring the outside in is a perfect way to communicate the feeling of fall in your home.

IMG_2805One activity that I have never tried at this time of year, but have always wanted to, was drying my own herbs.  Some for decorative purposes (shown here) and others for cooking. I hope that this may be a way to make use of them before the temperatures drop, their bright colors fade to brown,  and we move into the season of winter.

I LOVE your front door! I’m also reminded of how quickly I was able to kill my lavender and jealous of how pretty yours look here. 🙂

I always enjoy seeing what you do in your home! I really like the greens and creams of the natural decorations! I like the square planters outside your front door. Tell me about them, please!
