don’t think. it complicates things. just feel, and if it feels like home, then follow its path. -r.m. drake
There are different moments a person remembers in life. Some are connected to food, some to travel, some to school, the list goes on and on. For myself, moments of home seem to always depict the different times of my life.
We moved around a bit growing up. One region very different from the next. Starting with the authentic Italian side in New Jersey where my mother was raised, to the old world feel in The Netherlands where my father is from, to the southern culture in Tennessee and finally to midwest living in Ohio. These places and homes, were and still are, the basis of my childhood, filled with love, learnings and living.
My mother, also referred to as Marmee at times by her three girls (remember Little Women?), always knew how to make anywhere we lived feel like home. She made it seem effortless, but took her time to “study” (her favorite word) the home. Always taking note of the home’s surroundings, the architectural elements, as well as the feeling she wanted to create. Whether the house was big or small, new or old, or modern or traditional she would discover the elements needed to make the house feel like home for all of us.
I learned and continue to learn so much from her and hope to pass on these bits of knowledge on to you. There seems to be a hunger for this type of approach to decorating. It is a different approach, yet to me is the only approach.
How interesting to know that you lived in Ohio. I’m from there also…Willoughby (north east), then Columbus (central); now in PA. Lovely photos.
What a beautiful post & blog!
Thank you Kelli! Take care! Melinda
This post is lovely and made me realize that I feel very much the same about home. It’s not the geographic location, but the love and warmth that goes into each room of a home, that truly makes one welcome. The furnishings and accessories reflect the history and warmth of the people that live there.

Hello Karen! I am so happy you found value in the post. Thank you for the continued support my friend. Take care, Melinda
It’s so nice that you have such a special connection to home thanks mostly to your mother. My mom always wanted a nice home but life always interfered. I try hard to fix a home in a way she would have liked.
Hello Maura! What a wonderful tribute to your mother. It is wonderful that you put so much care and effort into your home. Take care, Melinda
