Feel Home: Creating a Timeless Feeling Home

We all have the same questions when it comes to designing our homes. Where do I begin? Is this really me or am I making this decision because it is the latest trend? Am I still going to like this look six months from now? Whether you are the everyday home designer or working with a professional, the choices you make for your timeless home need to be made with intention. This course will guide you through the process and teach you the framework that I use to create a timeless home with my clients. We will create storyboards, discover the language for a timeless home (hint, it has a lot to do with your personality), and learn the exact design elements that create a timeless feeling. You will learn by doing. As a result, making design decisions for your timeless home will be easier. You will be making your decisions with intention and confidence rather than because you saw it in the latest issue of a favorite magazine. This course will teach you not just the what, but the how and why behind creating a timeless feeling in your home.

A Timeless Living Room Design

I have found that people tend to have two different types of feelings in their home (hint, it has a lot to do with your personality). I refer to them as your “major” feeling and your “minor” feeling. Every feeling has specific design elements that will help convey its message.

Creating a feeling in your home is far more than just a checklist, but it does help to have a framework to reference. It is about finding a balance between your creative side and the specific framework that communicates your feelings. The purpose is to help you see how all of the different design elements fall into place. For example, when it comes time to purchase a pillow for your couch, you will know which patterns will best communicate your feelings.

I created these living room design boards below based off of a timeless feeling. Within the timeless feeling are two categories, simple and elegant. You will see a mix of both categories in this living room.  My  free “Timeless Feeling Design Plan (available to my email subscribers) is based off of the simple side of timeless. Once you receive it, look to see what design elements in the plan are put into practice here and how it is done. Pay attention to color palette, patterns, finishes, etc.

I started with the largest piece in the living room, the Arhaus sectional (#1 design board) and Arhaus couch (#2 design board) because it is a focal point and makes an impact in the room. I then moved onto the other large pieces and kept my timeless framework in mind throughout the design. I wanted to show you two examples, one using a standard size couch and the other showing a bit more seating by using a sectional.

This design plan is a small sample of what you could learn in my online course, “Creating a Timeless Feeling Home” that you can register for now on my website, here. This course will guide you through the framework that I use to create a timeless home with my own clients. You will finally be making decisions for your home with ease and a new found confidence.

A FREE Timeless Feeling Design Plan

academy

I found myself feeling frustrated and overwhelmed when I was trying to create a timeless and simple feeling in my own home. I came to the conclusion that we all have similar questions and concerns when it comes to designing our home. Is this really me or am I making this decision because it is the latest trend? Am I still going to like this look six months from now? I also remember hearing that my home should tell my story, but exactly how was I supposed to do that? So, I decided to get to work.

What I discovered is that when you marry your feeling and personality traits with the right design elements, you begin painting the picture that is your story. It doesn’t matter if your budget is large or small, the important element is that the choices you make for your home are made with intent and purpose.

I know there are other everyday home designers who struggle in the same way I did with designing their homes, which is why I created a FREE resource titled “A Timeless Feeling Design Plan” that I will email you when you subscribe to my website.

Beautiful Backyard Blogger Series

[jetpack_subscription_form title=”Subscribe To Blog” subscribe_text=”Sign up to receive updates and get a FREE Timeless Feeling Design Plan!”]IMG_0227

Thank you to my friend Stefanie from Brooklyn Limestone for asking me to participate in her Beautiful Backyard Blogger Series. Having been a long time admirer of her work, it is a true honor for me to take part. TakeItOutsideGraphic

I think of our backyard as another room in our home.  A room where I want a timeless and relaxed feel that is consistent with the other spaces throughout the house. I have discovered that when you understand how you want your home to feel, their are basic design elements that will communicate that message consistently. As a result, making design decisions for your home becomes a little easier.

Once I knew and understood the color palette, patterns, and finishes that would portray a timeless feeling best, I became confident in what to choose for our home whether the space was inside or outside.  I thought others may benefit from a simple guide showing how I create this feeling, so I built a FREE “Timeless Feeling Design Plan” to help get you started. This design plan is a small sample of what I teach in my online course, “Creating  a Timeless Feeling Home” that you can register for now here.

When you keep your outside decisions consistent with the ones you make on the inside, you are able to bring the outdoors in seamlessly. For me, this approach creates a calming and predictable setting which I appreciate and crave. We have a busy household with three young children. By working within a framework, I create a calming retreat my family and I desire. Intuition and your home play a big part, but having a set of guidelines can make it a little easier for you.
