How to Make an Easy Spring Wreath

As April showers and sun bring in fresh green grass, blooms and feathered friends, I was inspired to create a new wreath that reflected my spring home.

A wreath inspired by the bird’s nest that becomes part of my front door decor every year.

Every spring a bird will start to build a new nest out of its findings and nestle in a little covered corner over our door.

I welcome these birds and the eggs they lay.

I love watching their process of building their home with what they can find and awaiting their babies.

A true sign of spring every year.

This spring season I am being resourceful in the same way as those birds.

I am using materials that I already have in the house to build my own “Bird’s Nest Wreath”.

For my own spring wreath that meant moss, which is a favorite element of mine,

a grapevine wreath base, floral wire,

branches, and faux eggs.

You can watch me make my “Bird’s Nest Wreath” in my video tutorial  HERE. Oh, and be sure to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel, so that you don’t miss any new content!

Take care,

5 Step Project: Simple Spring Indoor Planting

Are you familiar with the 5 ingredients or less concept when it comes to cooking and knowing what is in your food?

I had started the home decorating version a while back, and am starting it again!

This series involves simple projects that take 5 steps or less to achieve in your home.

To recap, the items that are included most likely are ones that you already own or you can easily find. You can shop your home, favorite brick and mortar stores, garage sales–whatever floats your boat!

This series will provide you with the steps, but ultimately you are in charge.

It is that simple.

Let’s get started with our simple project, so that you can start decorating your home today.

5 Step Project: Simple Indoor Spring Planting

I have the itch to get my hands in the dirt, but the weather here will not be ready for planting for another couple of months. I found the perfect solution to this problem…

Indoor spring planting!

Why?

… it is a simple way to bring new life inside and welcome the spring season

… it allows me to get a taste of planting and what is to soon come

… it allows me to witness the daily growth of spring bulbs and seedlings, which I truly enjoy

What To Do:

Step 1: Find a vessel (always shop your home first)

Step 2: Choose your spring plant, i.e. spring bulbs, seeds, flowering plant

Step 3: Assemble

Step 4: Add moss around the base (optional, but a favorite addition of mine)

Step 5: Select a location in your home for your spring plant & enjoy!

If you would like to know how I choose just the right vessel for my plants (they aren’t always traditional garden containers)  you can watch my video HERE. Oh, and be sure to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel, so that you don’t miss any new content!

Take care,

Spring Home Tour

When I was asked by April from House By Hoff and Krista from The Happy Housie if I would like to participate in the “Seasonal Simplicity” home tour, I thought what a fantastic way to celebrate the start of this time of year. I knew from the beginning that  I wanted to represent new life, optimism, and the changes that take place outside that all occur at this time of year. Budding branches, a fresh feeling, and learning something new were all at the top of my list to help welcome spring.

If you are here by way of At Charlotte’s House or any of the other talented bloggers on the tour, welcome, and thank you for visiting me!

Learning how to arrange flowers was a fantastic way for me to kick off the spring season. Doing it with friends made it even better!

I have a passion for teaching and the home, and teach the “everyday home designer” that design isn’t about a look, but a feeling. A feeling that is about emotion and simply put, feels right to you and your home. It is that “something” when you walk into a space that just feels right.

The feeling you want to create in your home (hint, it has a lot to do with your personality) has basic design elements that you can choose to communicate that message consistently. Making design decisions for your home becomes intentional, easy, and something that you are happy with for a long time.

In my kitchen you can see evidence of the feeling I created in the space. Timeless, simple, and welcoming are the words I used as a guideline for the design elements that I chose for the room. By using these words as a guide and their design framework I was able to make decisions with intention, rather than make decisions on what the latest trend was at the moment.

As I noted above, I wanted to create a fresh feeling in my home to help celebrate the spring season. Pastel greens, fresh greenery, and forsythia branches were all ways that I created that feeling in the space.
