There are a number of ways that will help you achieve my design philosophy. The first thing you will notice in my own home is color. I enjoy a grey, black, and white palette and will base design decisions for my home with these colors in mind. Of course, you will see various shades of grey, black, and white throughout the house, but they are the base of the home.
For me, honoring a consistent palette creates a calming and predictable setting which I appreciate and crave. We have a busy household with three young children. The last thing I want to create in our home is unnecessary chaos. By choosing a consistent palette for our home, I create the calming retreat my family and I desire.
When you stay consistent with your color palette, your home won’t feel disjointed from one room to the next. It will actually create the opposite outcome and everything will flow and connect. The paint that you choose for the walls of your home is a fantastic place to start. It will provide you with a big impact quickly. The wonderful thing about painting is that it is inexpensive and anybody can do it.
In my own home, the entire downstairs is painted Rhino by Behr. If I wanted another color in a room, I would choose the color before or after on the paint card. This way it would stay in the color family and would be a natural progression into the room it is connected to. Remember, consistency is key to achieving a classic, simple, and timeless look.
